Simmering 6

I sat at a simmering 6 for most of my life.

What does that mean? I have a 1/10 and a 10/10 energy potential

1/10 for me is after sleep deprivation + fitness activities. I think I've been there once or twice. (Maybe never.)

10/10 is waking up well rested, and having caffeine after a month long break.

I see it in quotes throughout history:

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. -Theodore Roosevelt

6/10 is life in a grey twilight.

Putting a number to it was a move that I obtained from a podcast. The host mentioned that most people sit around a simmering 6/10 their whole life.

I was going from 4-6, but never to 1, and almost never to 10.

8/10: A moment with goosebumps and delicious food, maybe a first date that goes well, or a fitting poem under the stars.

4/10: A meeting went poorly, I’m sick, and a meal I was looking forward to was trash. My friendships aren’t going well.

9/10: I’m standing on a balcony in a new country, the air is cool and I have a day full of friends ahead. I smell coffee brewing at a cafe below, and am excited to see what is coming next.

The danger of thinking this way when I was younger - I always chased the 9/10 days. As I read more on the brain, I came to realise that I needed the 4/10 days to appreciate the 9/10 days. However, it has helped my 4/10 days become better in understanding they are part of the journey to 9/10 days.

This doesn’t mean I haven’t optimised for more 9/10 days...because who wouldn’t want more of those in life. :)

Drafts + thinking..

It's difficult for me to recognize and quantify the difference without the numbers. What does tired mean? Perhaps in other languages, there are more specific terms for tired. (In common English...I have tired, exhausted, and sleepy?)
